Happy July 4th: Still Proud to be an American

July 4, 2007

To all my American readers, happy Independence Day!  May your celebrations be filled with happiness, relaxation, and fun.  Personally, I plan to celebrate my own independence with BBQ, fireworks, and beer.

On a personal note, despite my lack of support for the Bush administration (and that’s putting it mildly), I’m still proud to be a U.S. citizen.

Why?

First of all, no one can deny that a U.S, passport opens doors that might otherwise be closed, despite the stigma of the Bush administration.  Besides, I’ve traveled fairly extensively during the reign of the Shrub and it seems that most people are capable of viewing individual Americans seperately from our government’s policies.

Secondly, we are still one of the freest nations on the planet.  Last I checked, even the Bush administration hasn’t managed to significantly curtail that, and his days in office are numbered.  Plus, we have the freedom (and the duty) to vote for and hope for change in 2008.
